Johor Bahru is a city at the southern most tip of the Malaysian Peninsula in Malaysia. It is located quite close to Singapore across the Johor-Singapore Causeway. This makes it a convenient base to stay when accommodation is difficult to find such as during the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix.
The city has a population of approximately 650,000 and was founded in 1855. Johor Bahru is the capital of the state of Johor. The ethnic mix of the city is Malay 48% Chinese 35% Indian 14%. Johor Bahru is historically a city associated with Malay nationalism so expect a more Malay flavour to the city compared to say Penang.
The city has a wide variety of hotels from guest houses all the way through to 5 star International Chain Hotels run by the biggest hotel companies in the world.
Because of Johor Bahru’s location close to Singapore it is an option rather than getting a hotel in Singapore you can get a hotel in Johor Bahru and travel to Singapore each day for your sightseeing and you can save money because of the lower cost of hotels in Johor Bahru.
