There are 3 main ways to get from Johor Bahru to Singapore.
- The Shuttle Tebrau runs from Johor Bahru Sentral to Woodlands Train Checkpoint where you go through the Singapore Immigration Checkpoint. You need to pre-book your ticket on this train. The shuttle commences running at 5.30am each morning and runs until 10.15pm at night.
The last train returning from Singapore to Johor Bahru leaves at 11.30pm The trip itself takes 2 minutes across the causeway but you would need to allow yourself at least 15 minutes to pass through immigration and customs. There are plans to link the Singapore Mass Transit System with Johor Bahru.
This is expected to open in 2024. Services leave approximately every hour. From the Woodlands Train Checkpoint if you wanted to go to the nearest MRT station you would need to get the 856 bus to the Woodlands MRT. So while this method is good to get through immigration its not ideal once you are in Singapore.
This will be resolved once the MRT is built between Woodlands MRT in Singapore and Bukit Chagar MRT in Malaysia.
- Public and Shuttle Buses also run to Woodlands CIQ this is a different checkpoint to the train checkpoint and is quite often more busy than the train checkpoint and can take a lot longer to get through immigration.
The plus side is that buses can be boarded at Johor Bahru Sentral or the Larkin Bus Terminal and you can pick up services in many places in Singapore although overall it will take you much longer than the train.
- You can get a taxi from Johor Bahru to Singapore and also back again. If you are in a group this might work out the best option, although if there is bad traffic it may end up being slower than public transportation and also it is significantly more expensive if you are travelling on a budget.
